The Cannes Film Festival is a prestigious event that showcases the best of the film industry from all around the world. This year, the festival will open with a historical drama called «Favorita» (Jeanne Du Barry), directed by Maïwenn Le Besco, who will also play the lead role. The film revolves around the turbulent relationship between French King Louis XV and his mistress Jeanne Du Barry, whom he installed in Versailles. Johnny Depp will play the role of the king, and the movie also features actors such as Pierre Richard, Louis Garrel, Melvil Poupaud, Pascal Greggory, and others.

The filming took place in Versailles and other castles in Paris and its surroundings. For Johnny Depp, this is his first film after a few years of boycott, and it will also be the first time he speaks French in a movie, which should not be a problem since he has lived in France for a long time.

In addition, the festival will also showcase the premiere of the highly-anticipated «Indiana Jones and the Fate of the Cypher» with Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role as the titular character. However, the film’s director, Steven Spielberg, has stepped down from the franchise, and James Mangold will take his place. The movie also stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, John Rhys-Davies, Antonio Banderas, Toby Jones, and Boyd Holbrook. Although the plot details have not been revealed, it is likely to be the last film in the franchise.

The previous Indiana Jones movie was released 14 years ago, and it also premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. This latest film will hit theaters on June 30, 2023, just two weeks before Harrison Ford’s 81st birthday.

The Cannes Film Festival will also feature the highly-anticipated out-of-competition premiere of Martin Scorsese’s latest movie «Killers of the Flower Moon», which is a thriller-western hybrid based on the book by David Grann. The film tells the story of the FBI investigation in the 1920s in the Osage Indian Nation where oil was discovered, leading to the locals’ wealth and subsequent murders.
